Why CPR Training Matters

Can you save a life? In an emergency, when every second is critical, would you know what to do? Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is one of India's fastest-growing causes of premature death — striking without warning in workplaces, homes, schools, and public spaces.

Once the heart stops, a healthy human brain can survive without oxygen for only 4 minutes before suffering permanent damage. Yet the average emergency medical services (EMS) response in urban India can take 6–10 minutes or more — a life-threatening gap that bystander CPR can bridge.

When performed correctly, CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) delivers oxygenated blood to the victim's brain and heart, dramatically improving survival chances. Studies show that immediate bystander CPR can double or even triple a cardiac arrest victim's chance of survival. With proper instruction, almost anyone can learn and confidently perform CPR.

Critical Facts About Cardiac Arrest

Survival rate drops 7–10% for every minute CPR is delayed after cardiac arrest.
Over 75% of cardiac arrests occur outside hospitals — at home, work, or in public.
Bystander CPR can double or triple survival rates before paramedics arrive.
Less than 2% of Indians are currently trained in CPR — one of the lowest rates globally.
Most victims know their rescuer — making community CPR training critically important.

What Is CPR? Understanding the Basics

CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) is an emergency life-saving technique performed when someone's heart has stopped beating or they have stopped breathing normally. It combines chest compressions and rescue breaths to maintain circulation and oxygenation until professional medical help arrives.

Modern CPR guidelines now also recognize Compression-Only CPR (Hands-Only CPR) as an effective alternative for untrained bystanders — making it even more accessible to the general public. Our training covers all approved techniques aligned with current American Heart Association (AHA) and WHO guidelines.

The CAB Framework of CPR

C

Compressions

Perform hard, fast chest compressions at 100–120 per minute to manually pump blood to the brain and vital organs.

A

Airway

Tilt the head back and lift the chin to open the airway and ensure it is clear of obstructions before giving breaths.

B

Breathing

Provide rescue breaths (mouth-to-mouth) to deliver oxygen to the lungs when the victim cannot breathe independently.

How to Perform CPR — Step-by-Step Overview

Our certified CPR course walks you through every step with hands-on practice. Here is a simplified overview of the adult CPR sequence:

1

Check for Safety & Responsiveness

Ensure the scene is safe. Tap the victim's shoulders firmly and shout, "Are you okay?" Look for normal breathing.

2

Call for Emergency Help — Dial 112

Call 112 immediately (India's emergency number) or direct a bystander to call while you begin CPR.

3

Begin Chest Compressions

Place the heel of your hand on the center of the chest. Push down at least 2 inches (5 cm) at 100–120 compressions per minute. Allow full chest recoil between compressions.

4

Open the Airway & Give Rescue Breaths

Tilt head, lift chin. Give 2 rescue breaths after every 30 compressions. Each breath should last about 1 second and visibly raise the chest.

5

Use an AED as Soon as Available

If an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is available, turn it on and follow the audio prompts. Continue CPR until the AED is ready.

6

Continue Until Help Arrives

Do not stop unless the victim shows signs of life, a trained responder takes over, or you are physically unable to continue.
